About the MBAC
The Medford Bicycle Advisory Commission’s primary goal is to enhance the safety, utility, and interest of bicycling as a means of transportation and recreation within the City of Medford.
The commission will create public programs and written material to educate the public regarding safe and legal operation by bicyclists, and motorists, and to encourage greater use of bicycles as a transportation option.
Additionally, the commission will make recommendations to the city regarding potential infrastructure improvements, including bicycle parking facilities, wayfinding and route signage specifically oriented toward bicycling, regulatory and advisory signage, pavement markings and dedicated bicycle ways consistent with the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, general traffic operation, and standard engineering principals.
Finally, the commission will work with the department of public works to insure that repairs and projects to public ways consider bicycle operation in their design and implementation, and with law enforcement agencies to assure equitable and consistent enforcement of traffic laws by both bicyclists and motorists.
